IGN has scored a new video preview of James McTeigue’s upcoming martial arts actioner NINJA ASSASSIN, starring Korean pop star Rain as a revenge-seeking ninja at odds with his former clan. In the new clip, Raizo (Rain) battles his rival Takeshi (Rick Yune) within a burning building.
What strikes me about the choreography in this footage is the number of times that Rain turns his back on his adversary by performing a spinning maneuver. I feel like I’m watching a wushu demo rather than a master assassin fighting for his life. I did enjoy Yune’s initial, more direct attacks.
Also, notice the latter portion of this sequence quickly turns into an over-edited mess with three our four cuts breaking up a single strike by Rain. This is the kind of hyper editing that belongs in a 30-second teaser trailer but not in the full-length movie. Hopefully, the rest of the film’s action sequences are not so excessively edited.
NINJA ASSASSIN opens in theaters on November 25.
