Ridley Scott’s ROBIN HOOD, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchette is gearing up to be one of the hottest action films of 2010. Everything I’ve seen or read about it so far suggests that Scott has crafted the most mature, hard-edged and action-packed screen adaptation of the Robin Hood legend to date.

An enthusiastic audience member recently sent in their thoughts to AICN after a test screening and affirmed that “Ridley Scott has made a variation on GLADIATOR that switches out swords and sandals for bows and arrows.” This person states that a learner Crowe is front and center of a “big period action epic” and “kicking ass.” We know that Crowe went through extensive physical, weapons and fight training to prepare for this role.

It looks like Scott is kicking 300-style movies down a well by going old school with large-scale, live-action battles with limited CGI and lots of brutal hand-to-hand combat.

Rudolf Vrba is listed as an assistant fight choreographer but I’m still trying to figure out who lead choreographer was. Vrba is one of the talented choreographers behind the fight work in upcoming superhero actioner KICK-ASS.

Check out the following two fight sequences, both choreographed by and featuring Vrba. His opponents are Jan Loukota and Veronika Vetchá.

I can hardly wait. Crowe and Scott kicked ass on “Gladiator” (my ATF movie!) and I'm geeked to the gills for this one.

I don't think robinhood's hair would look like he just got out of the local barber shop all clean cut, and perfectly groomed.

I've enjoyed some of Scott's work and I adore Cate Blanchette. But for some reason, Crowe rubs me the wrong way so I probably not have paid too much attention to this film if it wasn't for this teaser review from a respected source. Thanks for the heads-up!
