Disney has released a second trailer for PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s big-budget adaptation of Ubisoft’s adventure video game.
Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a courageous prince teamed with a rival princess (Gemma Arterton) to stop an evil ruler (Ben Kingsley) from unleashing a sandstorm capable of destroying the world. Mike Newell (HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE) directs. Stunt choreography is overseen by G.A. Aguilar (ZOMBIELAND) and Greg Powell (HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE) with parkour action coordinated by David Belle (DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM).
If you like wall-to-wall digital effects action, this film aims to please. Having dabbled with some of the video games in the PRINCE OF PERSIA series, the film looks to me to be reasonably true to the source material with plenty of wall-mounting acrobatics, swashbuckling daring-do and eye candy. The panning camera sweeps and speed alterations are a little excessive in the trailer and will hopefully be balanced out in the film itself. Otherwise, the films looks about as good as I would expect a live-action PRINCE OF PERSIA movie to look, especially as a summer blockbuster.
PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME opens in parts of Europe beginning may 19 and arrives in the U.S. May 28th.
