THE GREEN HORNET (2010)

With casting finally sorted out and production now in full swing, images from the set of Sony Pictures’ THE GREEN HORNET have begun to surface depicting stars Seth Rogen and Jay Chou, as Britt Reid and Kato respectively, in full superhero attire.

CriEnglish has three images of Taiwanese pop star and actor Jay Chou walking around set in suspenders while Splash News has scored some action shots depicting Rogen and Chou together during a shootout sequence. (Click on the previous site links to view the images.)

You may notice their stunt doubles sitting behind the stars in the shootout images. That would be Hiro Koda doubling for Chou and Steve Rizzo doubling for Rogen, both pros with years of experience behind them. Rizzo previously doubled Rogen in OBSERVE AND REPORT and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and apparently got his start working on STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE.

Koda performed utility stunts on the POWER RANGERS series in the ’90s and was a regular stunt double on Sammo Hung’s MARTIAL LAW. He also has past experience working with Rogen as he was a stuntman in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS.

Considering the old school costuming, retro gun in Rogen’s hand and look of their car, the “Black Beauty” which was previously unveiled at Comic Con, it appears the film will be a period actioner.

Leading up to the start of production, THE GREEN HORNET went through a series of troubling cast and crew changes. First, Hong Kong funnyman Stephen Chow dropped out from directing and was replaced by Michel Gondry. Then Chow dropped out of the role of The Green Hornet’s Asian sidekick Kato which ultimately went to Jay Chou. Then shortly after it was revealed that Nicholas Cage was considering the villain role of Chudnofsky he dropped out too and was replaced by INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS star Christoph Waltz.

While showing off the film’s signature car at Comic Con, Rogen tried to assure fans that everything was working out. More recently, co-star Edward James Olmos (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) spoke to the Los Angeles Times in support of the film by stating that the project is humming along nicely.

“I’ll put it to you this way — it’s quite a fun journey,” Olmos said. “It’s my first time doing this kind of a movie. BLADE RUNNER is the only thing that comes close to this. I’m having a lot of fun. People are really going to like what we’ve done. …”

as promising as this may seem now, i still think it would have been much better with Steven Chow directing and starring as Kato… *sigh*

the only thing that made the old green hornet series worth watching was bruce lee. i have no motivation to watch this new iteration of a movie with its casting. now, with stephen chow behind the mask, that woulduve gotten me to see it…

I don't have a very good feeling about this movie. I like Seth Rogen but he really shouldn't be in the title role. No one can take him seriously as an action hero, unless that's part of a bigger joke. If this Green Hornet turns into some derivitive, satiric action comedy, like the CHARLIE'S ANGELS movies, that would really be disappointing…
