Dream Movie Australia has released the first teaser trailer for director Wilson Yip’s highly anticipated upcoming kung fu movie IP MAN 2, starring Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung. In the teaser, the two martial arts superstars square off for what is expected to be one of the film’s highlights.

In this sequel to the award-winning IP MAN, Yen returns as Wing Chun grandmaster Ip (Yip) Man who has survived conflict with occupying Japanese soldiers on the mainland and now resides in Hong Kong where he opens a school and develops a rivalry with a local Hung Fist master, played by Hung. A child actor will portray a young Bruce Lee who goes on to become Ip’s most famous student.

Dream Movie Australia is the Aussie film distributor for IP MAN 2 and will be releasing the film at the same time that it premieres in Asia. Release is scheduled for May, 2010. To stay up to date on all of Dream Movie’s Asian film releases in Australia visit their official blog or Facebook page.

Sweet! I can't wait for this. Ip Man was surprisingly good, add Sammo in front of the screen and this will should be great.

Ip man had some great fighting but if this fight is one of those look at me balancing on chairs I would have prefered a proper realistic gritty fight

  • grundy

yeah i ditto that. thing is ip man just isnt meant to be gritty. its fantastical. so the chair thing goes along with it. ip man is like crouching tiger donnie yen style. yes even the ip man vs 10 black belts scene. ip man is the new wong fei hung so i wouldnt even think of mentioning the word gritty.

AFAIK the whole fight is on the table. Like a mini Leitei stage.

A teaser if I ever saw one . . . I'm salivating in spite of the fact that Yen obviously needed a wire to jump up on that table.

  • kareem

why yall niggas even post dis shit man??

  • DiP

If that was so then it could be because they wanted him to jump while his body is straight without bending his legs further down for take-off (it would look obvious and not good), looking down for jump precision, and breaking off the character at the same time. Nothing to do with physicality whatsoever.

Looking forward for this. Just hope the choreography is as good as in part 1.
And Sammo Hung is the greatest!!!!!!!!

  • DiP

    Physical disability that is.

You're right. I should've used the wording “USED a wire to jump on that table.” There's no doubt in my mind that Yen has the physical ability.

I don't like wires so I'm a little sensitive to their use, especially when it looked obvious when used for such a minor move. Nevertheless, BRING IT ON!

  • DiP

I respect your opinion but wirework is more than compensating for lack or enhancement of real skills. It's an art, just like any other form of action choreography.

I myself prefer authentic physical performance but if wirework is done economical, minimal, in context of the genre/style of the movie and in a great way, I welcome it.

quote: “….but if this fight is one of those look at me balancing on chairs…”
I belive that they will fight on the table. the chairs are just there to ensure that everybody who falls of the table suffers severe consequences:D

trailer looks cool. With those two involved I think there is nothing to worry about:)

    what a teaser lolll

  • Kent108

I'm sure the movie will be awesome, but what a cruel teaser. No views of the set, and not even the slightest glimpse of an action scene?? Come on!!!

  • Robert

Oh my goodness! This trailer is cruel and unusual punishment… now I can't wait to see the rest!

  • DevilmanEX

slightly reminds me of first SPL trailer. Only after the title of the movie you see a fast array of three kicks from Donnie that Sammo blocks. They definitely build suspense with this one though. Can't wait for Donnie vs Sammo 2 especially since its Wing Chun vs Hung-gar

  • jave

Yeah, I don't think they'll be running across the chair legs in this scene. What this actually reminds me of is the table top wing chun training scene between Yuen Biao and Ching Yim Lam in Prodigal Son (also directed by Sammo Hung).

Fighting on a small table demonstrated how effective wing chun is in close quarters. The table in this teaser is quite a bit larger than what they used in Prodigal Son, but I'm betting Sammo's going to demonstrate the same idea.

Here's the scene I'm referring to:

The choreography has that old school stocatto rhythm to it (I actually kinda miss that flavor), but it's really solid work.

If you haven't seen Prodigal Son yet, you're missing out on some awesome on-screen use of Wing Chun.

    Can't wait!!!!

Can you say SPL rematch? this is movie is going to be so great that Hollywood would have no choice but to put The Yen Master in a starring role.
