Lionsgate has released stills for their upcoming family action comedy THE SPY NEXT DOOR, starring Jackie Chan. Co-produced by Relativity Media, the film opens in theaters on January 15th, 2010.

This may not be the same Jackie Chan that wowed us with POLICE STORY and DRUNKEN MASTER II but the film looks like a safe movie to take the ankle biters to. Too bad it’s not coming out a little closer to the holidays though.

THE SPY NEXT DOOR (2010)

THE SPY NEXT DOOR stars Jackie Chan as Bob Ho, an undercover CIA superspy who decides to give up his career in espionage to settle down with his next-door neighbor and girlfriend, Gillian (Amber Valletta). But Bob has one more mission to complete before Gillian agrees to marry him: winning over her three opinionated kids.

When Gillian suddenly has to leave town, Bob volunteers to babysit the children so he can earn their approval. But when one of the kids mistakenly downloads a top-secret formula from his computer, Bob’s archenemy, a Russian terrorist, moves in for the attack, forcing Bob to juggle the roles of spy and prospective stepfather in the most challenging mission of his career!

    That's a cruel thing to say about the 1990s. This movie looks like utter ball torture.

    I remain oddly optimistic about THE KUNG FU KID being at least somewhat good, a feeling based on nothing in particular.

    No, that's probably about right. Though Tim Allen or Robin Williams might be in Chan's place, if it was really a 90s picture.

    Hey, I thought Robin-B-Hood was going to be bad but ended up really enjoying that movie. I am still optimistic.

    No, I knew Rob-b-Hood was going to be good, because, if you read his blog entries at the time, Jackie bonded very well with the baby off-screen. And it's obvious he really cared about making the flick come off as a reflection of his personal life as a parent. This movie's just a pay-check thing, though. But as long as he gives me another Around the World or Forbidden Kingdom down the road, I'll let it slide.

    I want to give Jackie the benefit of the doubt…but…I miss the old Jackie Chan. What happened to the old country bumpkin roles he used to play in the old days…?
