Twitch has unveiled the trailer and a link to the official site for the upcoming Vietnamese action film CLASH, starring real-life couple Johnny Tri Nguyen and Veronica Ngo, who co-starred in the acclaimed Vietnamese martial arts film THE REBEL.

TheClashCLASH, or BAY RONG in Vietnamese as it now officially called, is described as a somewhat-martial arts, action packed Vietnamese spin on MR. AND MRS. SMITH. The film, directed by Le Thanh Son, is set to be released in Vietnam in December with a longer director’s cut version to be released internationally sometime in 2010.

The official site, which is in Vietnamese only, can be found here. The trailer can be found at Twitch.

Update: An embed of the official trailer on Youtube has been added above.

Looking forward to this. The Rebel is an unappreciated action flick. Good fights and well made. Hopefully this will deliver as well.

If the Vietnamese film industry turns out to be anywhere near as good as that of their Korean and Thai counterparts, I'm on board.

BTW, I just added THE REBEL to my Netflix queue as a primer to the Vietnamese style. I'm stoked . . .

I doubt this can top The Rebel, but this still looks decent. Johnny Nguyen has great talent. Veronica Ngo was also very impressive in her debut of The Rebel. I wonder if Dragon Dynasty will pick this one up too.

I'm loving this trailer. It looks like Johnny and Veronica are expanding on the success of their first martial arts actioner THE REBEL by boosting the gunplay and vehicular stunts while sticking to the formula of setting a steady stream of kick-ass, grounded martial arts amid a gritty, emotional story and keeping themselves front and center throughout. Both have proven themselves to be excellent actors and screen fighters with Johnny overseeing the action choreography. I couldn't ask for much more apart from a bigger budget, which may come in time.

The action in CLASH sure beats the hell out of the wire/CGI nonsense were getting spoon fed from Hong Kong and Hollywood filmmakers. This is definitely going on my short list of must-see films. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too much longer. The film hits Vietnamese theaters on December 18 and should find its way on import DVD by early 2010.

If Magnolia or The Weinstein Company were smart, one of them would snatch up this film now and have it ready for North American VOD and home video release early next year, rather than sit on it for another six months to a year as pirating and imports eat away at potential profits.
