Veteran action warhorses Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren are going toe-to-toe once again in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION and here is the first footage of John Hyams’ upcoming sci-fi actioner courtesy of the following trailer.

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION (2010)

The militant Islamist Chechen Basayev abducts the children of the President and takes control of Chernobyl, threatening to unleash a radioactive cloud unless his demands are met. Luc Deveraux (Van Damme), now a Universal Soldier again, joins a new team of UniSols secretly held in deep storage. Their mission is to retake Chernobyl and disable explosives that will unleash radioactive clouds. Luc discovers that one of the reactivated Universal Soldiers is a clone of his old, homicidal Sergeant, Andrew Scott (Lundgren). He also must face the NGU, the next generation in the UniSol biotechnology.

NGU is played by Belarusian MMA fighter Andrei Arlovski, making his feature film debut. Jon Foo, upcoming star of TEKKEN, is playing one of the UniSols. Foo is best known to date for taking on Tony Jaa as a wushu sword fighter in THE PROTECTOR.

The big draw, of course, is Van Damme vs. Lundgren. They haven’t squared off since starring in the original UNIVERSAL SOLDIER in 1992. Both stars have seen their value rise respectively with the critical success of JCVD and the high profile of Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming actioner THE EXPENDABLES in which Lundgren stars alongside an all-star cast.

Sony Pictures is releasing the film on Blu-ray and DVD on February 2, 2010.

it could almost be the movie he's shooting in the beginning of JCVD

Unortunatelly it looks cheap. Sad but true.

Maybe the trailer looks cheap, but I've seen the movie and it doesn't, particularly. A majority of the movie was shot on a abandoned steel factory in Sophia, Bulgaria. Seeing it on a big screen may help. It manages to give graceful (heh) exits to Van Damme and Lundgren from the franchise while rebooting the franchise.
