Wushu movie star Jacky Wu Jing recently held the Hong Kong premiere for his latest martial arts feature which he not only stars in but also co-directed alongside FATAL MOVE action director Nicky Li.
In LEGENDARY ASSASSIN (aka WOLF FANG), Wu Jing plays a martial arts-fighting anti-hero, a hybrid between the righteous good guys he has long played on TV and in film and the ruthless killer he portrayed in Wilson Yip’s international hit crime film KILL ZONE.
Holly (Celina Jade) is a cop with high ideals who is aided by a drifter named Bruce (Wu Jing) in capturing four runaway convicts. Bruce is praised for his efforts and considers settling down in the community until more strangers come looking for him. Soon after a decapitated body is discovered, Bruce disappears and is pegged as the culprit. It is revealed that the strangers are Bruce’s former criminal associates and they kidnap Holly in order to get at him. Bruce comes to her aid again but she is forced to reconcile her feelings for him and her duty to uphold the law.
ASSASSIN is going up against stiff competition in China with Chen Kaige’s FOREVER ENTHRALLED starring Leon Lai as Mei Lanfang, China’s greatest opera star. Wu Jing’s film should be running out of steam just as Wilson Yip’s highly aniticpated kung fu biopic IP MAN, starring Donnie Yen, charges into theaters on Dec. 18th to cap a strong month for Chinese martial arts screen action in an otherwise weak year.
There is yet no news of any acquisition for North American distribution. Easternlight Films is handling international sales for LEGENDARY ASSASSIN.
