PARK Hyun-Jin

Starting out as a stuntman in his native Korea, Park Hyun-Jin is one of the elite members of the world famous Jackie Chan Stuntman Association. A member of the team since 2000, he has doubled for many actors in Chan’s films. Park is in fact a phenomenal kicker and his stunt role in a recent Chan film proved the accuracy of his kicking skills

PARK Hyun-Jin

The superkicking stuntman was born in the town of Daljeon in Korea in 1974. From a young age, Park studied the country’s martial art of Tae Kwon Do. His skills would eventually lead him to the Seoul Action School, the training center founded by Korean action master Jung Doo-Hung (CITY OF VIOLENCE). It was at the SAS where Park began to study the necessary skills to become a stuntman.

It was not long before Park began to work as a stuntman in Korean action films. His stunt work can be seen in films such as SHIRI, BEAT, PHANTOM: THE SUBMARINE. Impressed with his stuntwork and martial arts skills, Park was invited by Jackie Chan Stunt Team leader Nicky Li Chung-Chi to come to Hong Kong to work as a stuntman on the film GEN-X COPS. From the looks of things, he may have been the one to have been the stunt double for Nicholas Tse in the final sequence, after Tse injured his knee in the scene. Of course, it is not known.

His work in GEN-X COPS led Park to become a full-fledged member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. He can be seen sporting short hair as the stunt double for lead villain Ritchie Coster in what many feel was Chan’s worst Hollywood film, THE TUXEDO as work on another Korean film, FIGHTER IN THE WIND.

In 2004, Park was given the task to double for villain Andy On in Chan’s comeback Hong Kong film, NEW POLICE STORY. When Andy injured his leg in the final hand-to-hand combat scene against his on-screen hero Chan, Park stepped to the plate. What resulted is an amazing array of kicking combinations and jump kicks that came from Park intercut with On himself taking on Chan in what fans felt was the best fight scene of the film.

Jackie Chan himself has given Park the nickname of “Mong Cha Cha” due to Park’s nature to walk around in a daze when he is on the set and not working. Park has accepted the moniker and continues working, recently doing stunts on THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, the new martial arts adventure featuring Jackie Chan and Jet Li in dual roles.

Park has also made his acting debut in the 2007 U.S.-South Korean co-production DRAGON WARS as the character of Haram. Nevertheless, Park will always be known as the phenomenal stunt kicker of the Jackie Chan Stuntman Association.
