Production has begun on the sequel to the award-winning kung fu drama IP MAN with director Wilson Yip, martial arts star Donnie Yen and cast members having attended an opening ceremony in Foshan on Monday to honor the biopic’s subject, Wing Chun Master Ip Man (aka Yip Man).

IP MAN 2 will pick up where its predecessor left off with Ip (Yen) relocating to Hong Kong from his native Foshan. The plot will follow Ip’s early years there where he established leading up to the time when he took on a young Bruce Lee as his student.

Action director Sammo Hung is on board again, this time also in front of the camera where he will portray a Hung Fist master who develops a rivalry with Ip Man. Actors Fan Siu-wong, Simon Yam and Lam Ka-tung are also returning.

Several other new cast members will be added. Most notably, Bruce Lee will be portrayed by 10-year-old child actor Jiang Daiyan (see pictures). Other additions include former child martial arts actor Sik Siu-lung (DRAGON FROM SHAOLIN) and Huang Xiaoming (THE BANQUET).

Producers are still searching for an actor to portray an adult version of Bruce Lee for this film and possibly IP MAN 3.

The 100 million yuan ($15 million) production will mostly be shot on a set in Shanghai. Mandarin Films is planning to release IP MAN 2 in the summer of 2010.

what about William Cheung who interduced Bruce Lee to wing chun & was 1 of Ip Mans top students

I think the Hong Kong actor(Danny Chan Kwok Kwan) that played the Bruce Lee character in the recent Bruce Lee episodes is the most suitable candidate to fit into the IPMAN 3 movie, due to his look that almost similiar to the late Bruce Lee.

Will Ip Man 2 have english audio? If 1 would have had english audio(knowing that this Master was Bruce Lee`s teacher, this would be a blockbuster in allenglish speaking countries.(Even to this day.)So hopefully 2 will have an option for english audio.

Although Bruce was a little older when he started training with Ip Sifu, this kid looks like he will do a good job. Can't wait!

That kid looks like he might know a little something. Maybe we are looking at the next generaton of kung fu movie actor here.

Yeah here we go again, america is about to be shown how REAL FIGHT scenes are done. Well at least we have something to look forward to next year. IP Man 2 should get a major release in america this time... right?
  • gamebreaker04
Yeah, I agree. Here we have real top quality action/fighting scenes, but Hollywood is still attached to those fake action scenes (or it looks bad for the most part) in movies like GI Joe and that new Street Fighter movie, oh and of course, the dragon ball movie.

Maybe acting and fighting just don't mix in America??
