Update: Another story originating from a UK tabloid. Another load of B.S. MTV has debunked this rumor started by British tabloid The Sun, just as they did with another rumor published by British tabloid The London Mirror about Brad Pitt joining the cast of SHERLOCK HOLMES. For the record, “Rampage” Jackson has not been cast as B.A. Baracus in the upcoming A-TEAM movie.

Apologies to readers for printing another story that has turned out to be bogus. My ban on sourcing The London Mirror now extends to all tabloid journalism.

Rampage Jackson

UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been picked to play B.A. Baracus in creator and producer Stephen J. Cannell’s feature film update to his hit 1980s action series THE A-TEAM. Baracus was originally portrayed by actor, pro-wrestler and pop icon Mr. T.

Jackson, who won out over several hip-hop candidates including 50 Cent and The Game, joins a cast that already includes Liam Neeson as John “Hannibal” Smith and Bradley Cooper as Templeton “Faceman” Peck.

The original A-TEAM, which aired from 1983 to 1987, was a campy action comedy series that followed four eccentric Vietnam War veterans-turned-mercenaries who had been framed for a crime they didn’t commit. While running from the military, they applied their professional training to helping out the innocent. This usually entailed a lot of shoot-from-the-hip gunplay where no one got shot and montages involving the tricking out of various vehicles with armor and more guns for more non-lethal mayhem.

This is a huge break for the charismatic MMA fighter who has so far only had minor roles in several forgettable DTV productions. The new A-TEAM movie is being built up by 20th Century Fox as a more mature franchise. They’re doing a good job so far. Ridley Scott is on board as producer and Joe Carnahan, of NARC and SMOKIN’ ACES fame will be lending his stylized approach to the direction of the film.

As for Jackson, he’s no Mr. T (nobody is) but there is no doubt he’ll be able to handle any action. A quick look at some of his UFC highlights (see below) reveals that Jackson is a dynamic and skilled fighter with the natural showmanship and personality to be an action star.

How come there's a video of UFC president Dana White circulating on the Internet - actually more than one - talking about Rampgae not doing the UFC 107 fight to take the role? DW says he tried to talk Rampage out of it, but that "You can't fix stupid."
  • tikkiexx
Rampage kept denying it. now its out in the open. he is doing the movie.
  • tikkiexx
now theyre saying Rampage IS gonna be in the movie. apparently he backed out of his fight with Rashard Evans. i hope its worth it if its true because im pretty sure hes under contract and Dana White doesnt like people messing with his money.http://www.mmaweekly.com/blog/2009/0...vans-fight.asp

I push for Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson to play B.A. in the new A-Team! He exudes the tough guy with a beard and low grunts attiude! Get him.
  • LOL. Rampage Jackson is a tool. Bring Back Mr. T! Please...anyone but Samuel L Jackson....
  • Whydoesitmatter?
So that means there is room for Channing Tatum now??!! (j/k....lol)
  • Whydoesitmatter?
Nah i just hope people read into the sarcasm here, channing, keanu, jason, matt damon, liam neeson etc... smh... most americans think they are good action stars...

I just want guys like Donnie, Wu Jing, Scott adkins, M.J.W. and Tony Jaa to get a big break in america so these old farts who produce action films can see there is REAL TALENT out there...

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is NOT B.A Baracus

This rumor casting has already been dismissed by MTV News, who checked the story. The original fake story was released by The Sun newspaper, who dug up an 2008 story linking Jackson to The A-Team.
  • That's unfortunate and I'm sorry I ran with the story in the first place without waiting for confirmation. Jackson would have made a great B.A. Baracus.

I'm just glad it's not 50 Cent. Now they need to make sure the other characters aren't played by emo hipsters.
  • Whydoesitmatter?
Now if they only could get Channing Tatum in there then we could get some real action scenes!!!

Ramapage is one of the best interviews. HILARIOUS guy. Can't wait to see him in this.
