Shifu does directly translate into master in Mandrin so tortoise is making a bit of a cultural gaff.
As for the script I’ve been looking for a copy and would appreciate any help I can get in finding it.

One of the best lines in the film referred to destiny, but this is all I recall: “One’s destiny is usually met by traveling the wrong road.”
If you know it verbatim, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’m not a Mandarin speaker so I’m willing to leave open the possibility that “Shifu” has broader meaning. I just know that in the context of a martial arts movie its only used in reference to the master who is senior to the speaker.

There was definitely more depth to the character interactions than is typical for children’s entertainment.

When I searched for the meaning of “Shifu” I found one meaning tio be “accomplished worker.” We may suppose some understatement here. Yet even then, with this sense there is little paradox in Oogway addressing the wolf as Shifu.
We enjoyed the film although, unschooled, we missed all the allusions to classic Kung Fu. The deeper understanding the writers convey with the interactions between Oogway, Shifu, the tigress, and the snow leopard and Shifu, Po & Po’s father, all pairwise for the most part gave a depth to the story line that is there for the mature viewer to appreciate.
This post wouldn’t be from me without a nit: “They proceed to get down to series business.” I suppose is meant to be “They proceed to get down to serious business.”
