IVL’s DVD release of THE PROTECTORS may seem like less of a value as the film itself is only 62 minutes in length but that is the original running time according to the Hong Kong Film Archive. Otherwise, it’s yet another standard Hong Kong release of a Shaw Brothers movie remastered by Celestial Pictures.
Restored picture quality is excellent. The original Mandarin audio is preserved in its two-channel format. Removable English subtitles are easy to read and fairly well written. Bonus content is standard issue.
Trailers - Celestial produced trailers for TWELVE DEADLY COINS, AMBUSH, LONG ROAD TO GALLANTRY, and SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS.
Movie Stills - Ten color productions photos take up less than half the screen size.
Original Poster Art - Small image.
Production Notes - Dual-language description of film.
Biography & Selected Filmography - Profiles of Lo Lieh, Chang Pei-shan, Wang Hsieh (as Wang Hsia), Yang Ai-hua, and Wu Ma.
