As one of IVL’s late SB releases, this DVD of Shaw Brothers’ wuxia adventure HEADS FOR SALE starring Chiao Chiao and Chen Liang is a slight improvement over past SB releases, although still far from ideal.

The main improvement is that IVL ditched the horrendous 5.1 surround remixing of past titles in favor of maintaining the original two-channel Mandarin. Celestial Pictures’ remastered print looks good as usual but IVL’s presentation could be better. The picture is formatted in 16×9 but doesn’t quite reach either side. Removable English subtitles are adequate.

Trailers – New Celestial trailers for TEMPTRESS OF A THOUSAND FACES, KING BOXER, BROTHERS FIVE, and KILLER CONSTABLE.

Movie Stills – Production pics are larger than on past IVL releases but there is still no good reason not to make them full screen.

Original Poster – Too small.

Production Notes – Garbage as usual. It’s a one-sentence synopsis and it still contains a major factual error. Chiao Chiao does not fall in love with a bandit’s son as stated. She is the offspring of the bandit and it’s her family’s lower social status that complicates her relationship with Chen Liang who is rumored to have rejected her.

Biography & Selected Filmography – Brief profiles of Chiao Chiao, Chen Liang, Wang Hsieh (as Wang Hsia), Ching Miao, and director Jeong Chang-hwa (as Cheng Chang-ho).
