Magnet Releasing has probably done Thai action comedy CHAI LAI ANGELS more service than it deserves. While the film itself is a mediocre rip-off of CHARLIE’S ANGELS and Hong Kong girls-with-guns flicks with little to offer apart from hot bods, eccentric characters and excessively brainless martial arts and gunplay violence, this DVD release is nicely done.

The cover art is an accurate representation of the film, which once was a rarity among Asian action film releases in the U.S. DVD menus are attractive. Print quality is adequate and original Thai audio is included, along with an optional English dub. English and Spanish subtitles are also included.
Special features are forgettable but I appreciate that Magnet bothered to include an original “Making Of” featurette, music videos and the international trailer.
Making Of (14 minutes) – Apart from a few comments by director Poj Arnon and a sampling of behind-the-scenes-footage, most of this promo featurette is filled with the lead cast talking about their characters and what they do in the film. There isn’t anything particularly enlightening about this given how trite the film is. I did get a laugh out of how Arnon tried to suggest that the film is really about teaching people to respect the ocean. even though the “save the pearl” plot is pure fantasy and barely registers amid all the screwball comedy and action antics going on.
Music Videos (8 minutes) – Two film-related music videos feature the five leading ladies in different outfits and lip syncing in between scenes of the movie.
Trailers – Trailers for CHAI LAI ANGELS: DANGEROUS FLOWERS, ONG BAK 2, RED CLIFF, and BRONSON.
