Universal squeezes a sizable number of extras onto their premiere release of THE SCORPION KING 2 on region 1 DVD. The film itself may not be so hot but its production was well documented and broken into a series of polished featurettes that are arguably more entertaining.

There’s nothing noteworthy to comment on regarding the disc’s quality presentation. Cover art and disc menus are eye-catching and attractive. Audio and visual quality are first-rate for a DVD release.

Deleted Scenes (7 minutes) - Seven non-action deleted scenes are presented. I’m guessing most of them were cut for pacing reasons.

Gag Reel (2 minutes) - Looks like the actors had more fun making the movie than most viewers will from watching it. The tripping minotaur is the best bit.

The Making of THE SCORPION KING 2: RISE OF A WARRIOR (14 minutes) - This is better than the usual behind-the-scenes featurette, especially given the B-grade status of the movie. In interviews and set footage, the cast and crew exhibit a lot of energy and high morale while offering a glimpse at what the production was like for them.

Fight Like an Akkadian: Black Scorpion Training Camp (6 minutes) - This featurette focus on the stunt choreography of Anthony “Mo” Marais. It includes comments from Marais and the actors including Michael Copon and Randy Couture. There is nothing particularly impressive or insightful here. Marais has never worked on a film with top-level action and none of the actors are at a high level either.

Becoming Sargon: One on One with Randy Couture (4 minutes) - Couture talks about his role, the relative ease of the demanding 14-hour shooting days for him and the greater challenge in having to act.

On Set with the Beautiful Leading Ladies (4 minutes) -
This segment focuses on actresses Karen David and Natalie Becker and the work that went into their fight choreography. The raw set footage of their sparring looks better than the finished film footage of the same scene. That’s an indicator that the actors and the fight crew knew what they were doing with the fight work but the director, DP and editor did not.

Creating a Whole New World (9 minutes) - The impressive efforts of production designer Tom Hannam, creature effects artist Rob Carlisle and their team are highlighted in this featurette. It’s quite interesting to hear what materials were ingeniously used to produce some of the set designs. The production design is the best part about this film so this segment has more value than the rest of the extras.

The Visual Effects of THE SCORPION KING 2: RISE OF A WARRIOR (7 minutes) - Members of the digital effects team explain elements of the film’s visual effects which is coupled with behind-the-scenes footage.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. The script was a little lame, but other then that I loved the action and the story. The charcters were well delivered, especially the Greek, though I do think the most watchable part of this movie was Michael Copon!
I was happy that they used some new actors/actresses. (It gets annoying when you see the same actors over and over)
Overall, I think it’s definately worth watching.
