Released by Taiwanese distributor Hoker Records in 2008 on DVD is Joseph Kuo’s classic wuxia film THE SWORDSMAN OF ALL SWORDSMEN (1968) starring Tien Peng and Polly Shang-kwan. Although a licensed release, it’s a barebones package with a low-budget presentation marked by an unattractive menu, tinny Mandarin-language audio, serviceable yet poorly written removable English subtitles, and a non-anamorphic widescreen format with a slightly cropped picture.

These flaws can be overlooked given that picture quality is very good overall, passable English subs are included on an otherwise total Chinese-language release and most importantly, this relatively rare and quality wuxia film is available as a DVD release, period. Previously, this title has only been available from genre collectors as a degraded bootleg.

Buyers looking to track this title down may discover that Hoker Records has released quite a few wuxia classics on DVD recently including DRAGON INN. Most, if not all of them include English subtitles.
