
Three weeks ago, Hong Kong action director and martial arts actor Sammo Hung was admitted to hospital for heart surgery after reportedly taking ill while filming IP MAN 2, Wilson Yip’s sequel to the award-winning, semi-biographical kung fu drama about the life of Bruce Lee’s Wing Chun master.
The 57-year-old martial arts film legend was discharged within days and returned to the set where he continued playing a prominent role as a Hung Fist master and choreographing fight sequences.
Hung has admitted that his health is not in ideal condition due to long working hours, irregular meals, cigar smoking, and morbid obesity.
Despite his condition, Hung sought to reassure questioning Hong Kong reporters.
“Everything is back to normal even though my weight has become a health issue, causing heart problems. I am now back at work and I would like to thank everyone for their concern,” said Hung.
