A second, shorter trailer for Isaac Florentine’s NINJA starring Scott Adkins has been released. There are a few snippets of action footage not previously seen but there is nothing here that will likely alter initial impressions formed by the first trailer or the preview of a rooftop fight sequence.
I’m still enthusiastic about this movie despite mixed reception of initial footage within the fan community. Although it possesses a direct-to-video budget and footage has so far played down what looks like thin plotting and characters, the film still looks like a fun martial arts actioner that could provide Adkins with a great opportunity to show off his dynamic screen-fighting skills.
Having just viewed TERMINATOR SALVATION, I cannot say that the majors are doing any better at providing engaging storytelling with their genre action than indie filmmakers. Of course, the real comparisons will begin when we start to see footage from other upcoming ninja flicks, NINJA ASSASSIN and THE LAST NINJA.
