Action director Wu Min-hsiung (SORROWFUL TO A GHOST) helms this Taiwanese swordplay actioner featuring martial arts starlet Polly Shang-kwan (DRAGON INN) and a host of diverse weaponry. Dressed in golden clothes and a demon mask, an unknown swordsman murders Master Chien to rob him of his famous Long Rainbow Sword. The murder weapon used is the Deadly Phoenix, a feathered dart in the shape of a bird known to be the calling card of swordsman Chin Sha-yen. Chien’s niece, Hsiao Yu-ying (Shang-kwan), vows revenge and begins a search for Chin. On her journey, Yu-ying encounters other heroes looking for the killer, including scholar Chi Peng-fei who wields a book that fires razor-sharp pages, Constable Lai who leads a posse, the mischievous master Chivalry Just, and the mysterious northerner known only as the Lone Wanderer. Yu-ying’s quest is complicated when Chin shows up to clear his name by assisting her in tracking down the real killer. To fend off would-be vigilantes and rivals, Chin wields an iron umbrella that hides a spring-loaded chain dart and short sword. Yu-ying and her companions eventually hatch a plan to draw out the killer for a final showdown. Also starring is Wang Kuan-hung, Shih Feng and Tien Ming.
