After appearing in two Hong Kong films and a somewhat abysmal 1994 Hollywood film, Chun Li is back. Chun Li is the Chinese-born fighting diva from Capcom’s STREET FIGHTER video games. This time around, the fighting diva is getting her own feature film titled STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI.

Ming-Na as Chun Li in STREET FIGHTER (1994)

Following in the footsteps of Chingmy Yau Shuk-Ching (FUTURE COPS), Ming-Na (1994’s STREET FIGHTER), and of all people, Jackie Chan (CITY HUNTER), television actress Kristin Kreuk (SMALLVILLE) will be taking the role of Chun Li in the brand new film. The film is somewhat of a prequel to the 1994 Hollywood film, but is more of a reinvention. In the film, Chun Li must take on the evil M. Bison, who has killed her parents.

Joining Kreuk are Michael Clarke Duncan (DAREDEVIL) as Balrog; Chris Klein (AMERICAN PIE) as Charlie Nash, Rick Yune (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) as Gen, and Neal McDonough (WALKING TALL) as M. Bison. Jamie “Taboo” Gomez (of the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas), Moon Bloodgood (PATHFINDER), Edmund Chen (THE EYE), and the legendary Cheng Pe-Pei also star.

Andrzej Bartrowiak (ROMEO MUST DIE, CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE) is directing with a script by Justin Marks. Hong Kong’s Dion Lam (INFERNAL AFFAIRS) serves as the film’s fight choreographer.

Shooting has begun in Thailand, with shooting to continue in Hong Kong and Vancouver. STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI is scheduled for a 2009 release by 20th Century Fox.
