The complete, English-subtitled first season of the fantasy wuxia TV series THE SWORD AND THE FAIRY (aka CHINESE PALADIN) is coming to DVD in the U.S. courtesy of Tai Seng.
The series stars Hu Ge (LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES) as Li, a young man in ancient China who is transformed through a series of adventures into a superb swordsman. He must battle evil snake spirits, vampires and demons to ensure stability and peace in the land.
Also starring is wuxia screen legend Cheng Pei-pei (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) and Liu Yi-fei (THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM).
All 35 episodes totaling nearly 23 hours will be available on a five-disc DVD release with original Mandarin language dialogue and English subtitles on February 24th. SRP is set at $59.95.
Other Tai Seng titles to be released on the same date include Wong Jing’s comedy LOVE IS A MANY STUPID THING starring Shawn Yue and Eric Tsang and SUPER MODEL, a comedy starring Ronald Cheng and Karena Lam.
THE SWORD AND THE FAIRY originally aired on Taiwan’s CTV network in 2005. It is based on a popular computer role-playing game called THE LEGEND OF SWORD AND FAIRY, developed and published by Taiwan’s Softstar Entertainment in 1995.
