Have you seen this book, Yellowface: Creating The Chinese In American Popular Music And Performance, 1850s-1920s? I’ve only browsed through it, but it looks pretty interesting.

BTW, Long Tack Sam was quite handsome… kind of like Superman, with that big ol’ jaw!

The film is available on DVD from the National Film Board of Canada. You can order it through the Long Tack Sam website. The whole vaudeville era is a fascinating topic, and he seemed very comfortable in that world. Both the book and the movie are a lot of fun.
