In what may or not be excellent news, depending on your taste, Wind and Cloud are coming back in a brand new adventure. It was recently announced that the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 fantasy martial arts actioner THE STORM RIDERS will finally happen, courtesy of the Pang Brothers, whose work include BANGKOK DANGEROUS and THE EYE.

Hong Kong-based Universe Entertainment (HEAT TEAM, INVISIBLE TARGET) will be responsible for production of the film, which begins shooting this month. The Pang Brothers have recently made their Hollywood debut with the horror film THE MESSENGERS and directed the upcoming remake to their own 1999 film BANGKOK DANGEROUS, starring Nicolas Cage and Charlie Yeung.

Based on the comic book by Ma Wing-Shing, the original STORM RIDERS was directed by Andrew Lau (INFERNAL AFFAIRS) and revolved around martial arts warriors Wind and Cloud, who served under Lord Conquer only to learn his dark secret and they join forces to stop him from ruling the martial world.

STORM RIDERS fans will be excited to learn that both Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok will be reprising their roles as martial arts warriors Wind and Cloud. Joining the cast are Charlene Choi (HOUSE OF FURY), Nicholas Tse (INVISIBLE TARGET), Simon Yam (PTU), and newcomer Tiffany T. Ma Choi-Sing (BICHUNMOO) will serve as the film’s action choreographer.

Special Effects for the film will be handled by Fat Face, the company responsible for the special effects work on the horror film RE-CYCLE and recently, the period epic film THE WARLORDS.

The film is budgeted at $12 million and due to the extensive work on special effects, is scheduled for release in October 2009.
