JIAN GUO DA YE (2009)

A trailer recently appeared online for JIAN GUO DA YE (aka FOUNDING OF THE NATION), an epic, all-star period drama recounting the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It features cameos and guest roles by some of Hong Kong and mainland China’s top film talents including Andy Lau, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Stephen Chow, John Woo, Jet Li, Jiang Wen, Zhang Ziyi, Feng Xiaogang, and many others.

JIAN GUO DA YE is co-directed by Peter Chan, Chen Kaige, Han Sanping, and Huang Jianxin. The lead cast includes Tang Guoqiang as Mao Zedong, Zhang Guoli, Xu Qing, Wang Jian, Liu Jin, and Liu Sha.

Release in China is set for September 17.

    I would only expect that you get a much greater understanding of what China WANTS you to think of China. This is a movie intended only as propaganda. I can't wait to hear historians tear this to pieces.

    With that said, it's going to be an awesome movie. I just hope they don't make Mao look anything like a decent human being.

    This cast is superb but too bad there is no hand-to-hand combat. :[

    no way! ...this would be the only film with jet li, donnie, and jackie together on screen. now thats worth a watch. including chow and andy, it doesn't get any better than that.
  • Film can be a powerful medium when handled with care. I am looking forward to this learning experience as well.

    As a student of mandarin chinese I hope watching this movie will give me a greater understanding of people from the mainland. I am meeting more and more of them here in Brooklyn.
