A trailer for Wong Kar-wai’s highly anticipated reworking of his 1994 wuxia masterpiece is now available. Armed with a new soundtrack, new editing and other various tweaks, ASHES OF TIME REDUX has begun to appear on the film festival circuit where audiences are having a unique opportunity to see one of Hong Kong’s boldest and most challenging swordplay movies ever made on the big screen

Twitch’s Todd Brown says that Wong’s update has not changed the non-linear narrative that made the original film difficult to digest. Personally, I felt that the narrative was what made the film special, apart from Christopher Doyle’s gorgeous cinematography and excellent performances from a dream team cast of Hong Kong screen legends.
ASHES OF TIME REDUX will be screening at the Toronto film fest in September. It’s also scheduled for release in the U.K. on September 12th and in the U.S. on October 10th courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics.
