Trailer for Miguel Sapochnik’s ‘Repo Men’

Jude Law may be playing sidekick now as Dr. John Watson in Guy Ritchie’s action-oriented SHERLOCK HOLMES but he’s about to take center stage as a knife-fighting action hero pitted against GHOST DOG star Forest Whitaker in director Miguel Sapochnik’s gruesome sci-fi thriller REPO MEN. In advance of its April 2, 2010 release date, Universal has released a poster and red band trailer (NSFW).

REPO MEN is based on a novel by Eric Garcia who co-wrote the screenplay with Garrett Lerner. It’s set in a future where widespread organ failure is common and expensive organ replacement is now a thriving business. But for those who cannot pay their bills, repo men are sent out to retrieve the high-tech artificial organs. When repo man Remy (Law) becomes a recipient of a heart replacement and is unable to go back to work, he becomes the target of his former associates and decides to fight back.

Alice Braga, Carice van Houten and Liev Schreiber also star. RZA is in there too.

Plot-wise, REPO MEN is being compared to Darren Lynn Bousman’s oddity REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA (see trailer), a sci-fi horror musical also about artificial organs being reclaimed by a repo man in the future. However, the comparisons should stop there because in most other respects REPO! leans towards cult flick THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW where REPO MEN leans towards mainstream actioner THE MINORITY REPORT.

Stunt and fight choreography is overseen by Hiro Koda, a veteran stuntman and coordinator who has worked on everything from the POWER RANGERS TV series to the first two BLADE films. In 2010, he will also be acting as Jay Chou’s stunt double in THE GREEN HORNET.
