A new Americanized sci-fi series based on the popular KAMEN RIDER franchise in Japan is coming from DRIVE and GUYVER director Steve Wang. Thanks to the folks at Henshin Justice Unlimited, we get to see a revealing preview.
KAMEN RIDER: DRAGON KNIGHT is an American remake of KAMEN RIDER RYUKI, the 12th installment in Toei’s KAMEN RIDER series which first appeared on Japanese television in 1971. It stars newcomers Stephen Lunsford and martial artist Matt Mullins (AMERICA’S GOT TALENT) as Kamen Riders, armored superheroes battling a renegade warlord from another dimension.
Executive produced and co-directed by Wang, the series is modeled after Japan’s popular live-action superhero genre, better known to fans as tokusatsu. Notable franchises in this genre include ULTRAMAN, MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS and, of course, KAMEN RIDER. Wang, who is also an A-list special effects artist, is a longtime fan of the genre, as well as the martial arts film genre as his previous projects show.
The stunt crew includes ZeroGravity’s Sam Looc who was recently featured on this site in the short film AN ACT OF REVENGE.
The official site for DRAGON KNIGHT states the series will be broadcast worldwide in 2009.
