New footage of the recent European premiere of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is available at MSN Video courtesy of Moviebeat.
Stars Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Roger Yuan along with the film’s director Nikhil Advani were on hand in London on January 12th and gave brief interviews.
Bollywood screen legend Amitabh Bachchan also made a surprise visit to the premiere.
In the video, Yuan confirmed my earlier suspicions about the movie by describing it as a “Bollywood KUNG FU HUSTLE type of film.”
In a related article published by THE HINDU, Kumar was quoted as saying that CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is an “absolute senseless film.” In support of this assessment, Advani calls it an “illogical mad film” and in the video suggests that the film is pure escapism and recommends checking your brain at the door.
THE HINDU has a nice summary of CHANDNI CKOWK TO CHINA.
“The film chronicles the lunatic adventures of a hapless simpleton cook from Delhi (Akshay Kumar) who is mistaken for the reincarnation of an ancient Chinese warrior. As he goes to seek his destiny, he finds himself thrown into a crazy world of megalomaniac villains, crazy inventors, Chinese mysticism and outlandish kung fu assassins.”
Kung fu movie veteran Gordon Liu (KILL BILL) also stars in the movie although it doesn’t appear that he was on hand for the premiere.
CHANDNI CKOWK TO CHINA opens worldwide, including in the U.S., on January 16th. A trailer for the movie can be viewed at Apple.com.
