Short Films | by Mark Pollard

Hubba hubba!

What is this attractive young lady doing on Kung Fu Cinema and what does she have to do with screen fighting you may ask? Trust me and just watch this mock Doritos ad to the end before reading on.

I consider this short to be an accurate representation of what would have happened had Bruce Lee walked into a film like CHARLIE’S ANGELS or DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE.

The spoof ad features Cherie Chan and Timothy Ly and is part of Ly’s “W.W.B.D.” series of shorts, which stands for “What Would Bruce Do.” Two previous videos in the series are available on Youtube. They’re not quite as good as this one but you do get to hear Ly give a solid Bruce Lee impersonation that might make Bey Logan jealous.

Ly is an Asian-Australian actor and filmmaker behind MAXMIMUM CHOPPAGE: ROUND 2, an independent action comedy feature film from Rumble Pictures that is self-described as “Australia’s first urban martial arts action adventure.”

I’ve got my hands on the film and will have a review out soon. For now, check out the film’s slick official site for a trailer, mock behind-the-scenes footage and more info.

    That was pretty good.
  • Great fun and makes me fantasize about seeing Bruce Lee walk onto the set of the Karate Kid remake and kicking Jackie Chan in the keister! [Jackie Chan in his stacatto delivers] "What do you think your are doing . . . are you crazy?" [Bruce] "Owwwwwoo . . . have some pride in your country!" Hissssss . . . flex . . . [video fades].

Don't get me wrong, I love Jackie Chan anyway.
