Scott Adkins is back as Casey Bowman in the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 film NINJA. While many felt disappointed in the original film, judging from the trailer, fans will end up liking this sequel, which features Kane Kosugi in the role of villain Nakabara.
American martial artist Casey Bowman has settled down at the Kōga ninja dojo and married Namiko Takeda, who is pregnant with their first child. His life suddenly falls apart when Namiko is murdered one night while he is away from the dojo. Fueled by his rage, Casey travels from Japan to Thailand and Burma to hunt down the mastermind behind his wife’s murder.
Aside from Adkins and Kosugi, the film co-stars Shun Sugata, Vithaya Pansringarm, Mukesh Bhatt, and a special appearance from original film star Miki Hijii as Casey’s doomed wife. The film was directed by Isaac Florentine, who helmed the original and fight choreography was done by Swedish-Chinese martial artist Tim Man, who also appears in the film as “Myat”. Shooting took place in Bangkok, Thailand and features the likes of Kazu Patrick Tang and Ron Smoorenburg in small roles.
NINJA: SHADOW OF A TEAR made its debut on September 19 at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas with a tentative DVD release date of December 31, 2013.
