Wang Yu plays a fist-fighting sailor who ends up at odds with a gang of smugglers when he falls in love with the daughter (Okada Kawai) of an inspector investigating the cutthroats. Read the following excerpt from a 1973 promotional flyer for a full synopsis (with mild spoilers).

Hai Lung (Wang Yu), a young seaman believing he had killed his opponent in a brawl, stowed away on a ship which sailed for Xubei. Captured by a gang of smugglers onboard on arrival, he agreed to deliver a message for them. Knowing him to be a good fighter, the gang sought to recruit but he refused. He managed to elude their clutches and contacted his cousin Hsiao Li where he was given shelter.

In the meantime, Hai Lung rescued Kao (Okada Kawai), a young girl, from a number of teddy boys. They were soon attached to each other. Kao, incidentally was the only daughter of a police inspector who was hot on the trail of the smugglers.

Golden Hair (Tien Chun), head of the smuggling gang, felt that Hai Lung, being in the company of the inspector’s daughter posed a threat to his activities. He and the gang sought to kill Hai Lung.

Unable to trace Hai Lung, Golden Hair and his gang killed Li and Hsiao Fong (Maria Li), who was the daughter of the landlord where Hai Lung was staying.

On discovering this, Hai Lung swore vengeance. He and Chao, fiancée of Hsiao Fong, managed to find the hideout of Golden Hair. While Chao went for the police, Hai Lung invaded Golden Hair’s hideout. At the final showdown, he killed Golden Hair while the police arrived in time to arrest the rest of the gang.

Eyecatcher Movies’ disc is presenting the film uncut in 16×9 progressive scan 2.35:1 aspect ratio. It includes English, Mandarin and German audio tracks in mono, as well as English and German subtitles.

Extras include a photo gallery, original theatrical trailer and English title sequence.

SEAMAN NO. 7 is being released as THE FIGHTER: FLUCHT INS CHAOS with three different covers, two regular ones and one limited edition. June 30th is the tentative release date. The disc will be available for purchase at an online shop called D&T Mailorder and will likely make its way to the U.S. as an import. This article will be updated as availability changes.

Joy Sales previously released an inferior VCD version of SEAMAN NO. 7, which is currently available at HKFlix.
