Well Go USA to bring ‘Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge’ to DVD

By Mark Pollard | Published January 21, 2010

Well Go USA has announced the impending DVD release of Japanese action drama NEGATIVE HAPPY CHAINSAW EDGE. Available March 30, 2010 is this CGI-infused tale from director Takuji Kitamura and based on a best-selling novel by author Tatsuhiko Takimoto.

The film’s quirky title suggests this is another MACHINE GIRL-type of movie with over-the-top gore but it looks more like a mild teen drama with some fantasy action elements.

NEGATIVE HAPPY CHAINSAW EDGE takes place in modern-day Tokyo. One night Yosuke (Hayato Ichihara) encounters Eri (Megumi Seki) a beautiful girl in her school uniform and suddenly a surprising battle begins. Pitted against an immortal giant who brandishes a vicious chainsaw, Eri and Yosuke must come together and understand why this chainsaw wielding ghost continues to appear. Is he determined to end their life or simply communicate a dark message and the truth about Eri. The wire-fu action, knife fights, crazy and beautiful CGI including stunning sets all come together in this dramatically charged film.

  • Sometimes this type of Japanese film can be a real hoot and totally surprise you! I've said it before, watch KAMIKAZE GIRLS for an off-beat treat.

Really enjoyed this film - a lot of fun with some cool fight sequences. Not like MACHINE GIRL at all, actually. Glad to see it is finally getting a US DVD release.
