Zaror to star in 3D remake of ‘Mirageman’

By Mark Pollard | Published October 14, 2009

Rising action star Marko Zaror is set to headline a 3-D, English-language remake of MIRAGEMAN, his second Chilean film recently released on DVD in the U.S. by Magnolia Pictures.

News was officially released by producers at this year’s Fantastic Fest where Zaror’s third film, MANDRILL, premiered and went on to earn Best Actor and Best Picture awards.

DEFENDER 3D teaser art

The remake is called DEFENDER 3D and the producer-helmer attached is Andy Cheng, veteran action choreographer of U.S. SEALS II and TWILIGHT. He is also recent director of political thriller END GAME starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and REDLINE, a FAST AND FURIOUS clone.

The original Spanish-language film stars Zaror as a martial arts-trained bodyguard who becomes a masked vigilante to fight crime.

Our own contributor Albert Valentin also had the inside scoop on this story and says that production is scheduled to begin early in 2010.

An official website with early teaser art is currently up.

True CirenzSonG, plus with Andy Cheng as action choreographer (along with Marko I'll bet) it's going to be great action wise
  • Think of it this way...If he breaks into the US Market...This will help him securing more Star Power...which, if his stock goes up HERE...Then he'll be able to make more OriginaL Movies again, but with more affluence & Influence @his DisposaL...So I think of this as a Plus...To broaden his scope & Horizons...as a Fan, I can understand ur Sentiments//FeeLin' on the Situation...However, as a Fan, I must admit, this sounds promising...Could be on Epic Scale as when Bruce first did Enter the Dragon...Could be MonumentaL...Like the United States introduction proper to Perhaps our next biggest ROckin' MartiaL artZ Superstar...ala Van Damme in Bloodsport...or Jackie with Rumble in the Bronx...Or Jet in Romeo Must Die...Once he "breaks" into the U.S. Market...Man, I'm just excited by the possibilities...this just means that MORE people would have seen his movies...the potentiaL is Grand...and not only this...If more people see his movies...God, the quality quotient just went up for Action movies MADE here...So no more bullshit Jason Bourne Shaky Cam nor BAD action scenes in the new batman series...Yeups, the film itself is GREAT, but the action scenes are handled POORLY in the United States...hardly anything can be seen as coherent...at least THIS way...The Brazilian can show how it's REALLIE done...not to mention, the attention this will draw back to his country...Makes sense?

Now we see why BraziL'S gettin' all the Love, que no?

Marko Zaror is from Chile, not from Brazil...

I am not too keen on this remake. I think Marko should instead concentrate on other original story`s, not some American remake of a film just released on dvd.
